Shakespeare Gets Eight Minutes at Bash

Nebraska Shakespeare logoFour Shakespeare plays in one night is on the bill for Nebraska Shakespeare's annual fundraiser, Backstage Bash, on Thursday, June 6, at the UNO Milo Bail Student Center located at 6001 Dodge St.

OK, that's two-minute versions of four plays: Twelfth Night, Titus Andronicus, The Tempest, and King John. The company is describing it as more of a circus than drama, as six actors will play multiple parts, wearing various wigs and costume pieces, tossing props, and speaking the most memorable lines of these plays in two minutes or less. If the actors fail to make the time limit they do a push-up for every second they go over.

The four-play circus caps off an evening that will include a cocktail hour with madrigal singers and jugglers entertaining the guests, dinner, a silent auction, and live auction.

Proceeds raised through the Backstage Bash will assist Nebraska Shakespeare in staging admission-free productions of Twelfth Night and Titus Andronicus (the full versions),which open June 20 at Shakespeare on the Green. Additionally, funds will support year-round educational programming such as Camp Shakespeare for youths 8–18, preshow Scholar Forums, and the Fall School Tour to communities throughout Nebraska and western Iowa .

Tickets at $100 per person are available on-line at http://www.nebraskashakespeare.com/events/annual-fundraiser---backstage-bash.
